Keeping in the theme of Halloween (muah ha ha), today’s Spotlight focuses on a classic survival horror game in a well-known series: Resident Evil 3: Nemesis!

Coming off the heels of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis follows fan-favorite Jill Valentine, a former Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) member, as she attempts to escape from the zombie-infected Raccoon City. At the same time, Jill must evade the stalking bio-organic weapon made to target remaining S.T.A.R.S members, Nemesis. RE3 has what made the first two games so good and elevates it: cool camera angles that create tension and unpredictability, thoughtful puzzles, a fantastic soundtrack, an interesting story.

But what makes it different from the rest?

One word: Nemesis. Hulking, powerful, and brutal, Nemesis is an iconic villain in not just RE3, but the Resident Evil series as a whole. Maneuvering through a city full of zombies? Cool, that I can do no problem. But throw in a bio-organic monster who randomly shows up when I least expect it to? Now you’re just adding in a whole new level of anxiety and scares Shinji Mikami.

I dove into this game wanting to give the old-school RE games another chance after coming away from Resident Evil 2 disappointed and frustrated. Starting RE3, I was immediately hooked on the gameplay and wondering when Nemesis would show up every time I entered a corridor, alleyway, or open street. On top of that, the female protagonist Jill Valentine is a badass for taking on the biological horrors (once again) produced by the evil Umbrella corporation. If you have never dabbled into the old-school Resident Evil games, take a shot with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It’s a game that truly stands the test of time and is a memorable survival horror experience that is perfect for Halloween!
