SEGA announced a new way to play their classic titles from all of their systems, in a 90’s style commercial, called SEGA Forever.
SEGA Forever is a free to play way that allows you to play SEGA’s games on your mobile phone. All of the games will include achievements and leaderboards. And yes, SEGA Dreamcast is also included in SEGA Forever. Which is a nice surprise, since originally, it was rumored to be all SEGA platforms with the exception of SEGA Dreamcast.
The launch lineup is currently only 5 games, all being Sega Genesis / Mega Drive games. The launch lineup includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star 2, Kid Chameleon, Comix Zone, and Altered Beast. But looking at the trailer, you can see games such as Shinobi, Crazy Taxi, Vectorman, Golden Axe, Alex Kidd and other SEGA classics.
If you aren’t a fan of playing mobile games with touch screen, you’ll be happy to know that SEGA Forever supports controller support. Probably not the most convenient way to play these games when you’re on the go, but more options is always a good thing.
In game advertisements will be part of this free service, but if you wish to remove them, you can pay $1.99 to have them removed. There’s no word on whether or not this is for all SEGA Forever games, or if we have to pay $2 per-game or per-month.
SEGA Forever is available right now in China, but will available tomorrow, June 22, for the Western territories.
