Project Scorpio Specs Revealed!

Last year Microsoft introduced Project Scorpio as the most powerful console ever, and after several months of speculating we finally know what will be under Scorpio’s hood. Thursday Digital Foundry had the pleasure to do an exclusive reveal of the official technical specifications of Project Scorpio.

No need to beat around the bush, Project Scorpio sports incredibly powerful hardware, with a custom CPU with 8 cores (two physical cluster from 4 cores) with 2.3 GHz, x86-x64 architecture. On the graphical side, the GPU boasts 40 custom Compute Unit operating at 1172MHz, and that will ensure 4K resolutions and improved frame rates.

The memory is changed from a hybrid pool to a single pool of 12 GB GDDR5, with 6,8GHz frequency 384bit which guarantees well 326GB / sec of bandwidth. Confirmed the use of native DirectX 12 at the hardware level, Shader Model 6 and a whole series of hardware-level optimizations that make it unique chipset Project Scorpio.

Scorpio is based on an APU to 16nm FinFET (Scorpio Engine) of 360mm2 boasting inside 7 billion transistors. The consumption is about 245W. The cooling system relies on a new innovative system of liquid cooling, which held the APU and the system memories.
