Yesterday, we reported on the leaked Overwatch Insurrection trailer highlighting the new event coming to the famous multiplayer shooter.
Since today is April 11, the free update officially goes live and is called Overwatch Uprising. The event features new legendary skins, emotes, sprays, voice lines, and more (D. Va has the best highlight intro in the history of highlight intros).
The new game mode featured is similar to the Junkenstein’s Revenge, where four players face off against a hoard of lethal AI robots. The Uprising PvE game mode is on King’s Row map and is the most story-focused add-on to the game. In the Uprising event, Tracer, Reinhardt, Mercy and Torbjorn are sent to King’s Row to combat dangerous mechs, a mission set in the “golden days” of the Overwatch organization.
This game mode itself is a lot longer than Junkenstein’s Revenge, and a ton of fun to play. I love seeing King’s Row and the leftovers of dismembered mechs and battle marks scattered throughout the map, telling a piece of history in the Overwatch universe. It’s a nice addition to the interesting and vibrant lore of Overwatch.
For players that want more, there’s a separate Uprising game mode where players can choose any Overwatch character to test different synergies or add a challenge to the hoard mode. Blizzard didn’t have to add this, and the fact that they did shows they are intently listening to their community. I’ll have to convince my friends to choose a team of all attackers or swap Mercy for Lucio or Ana. I can tell already our Overwatch nights are going to be filled with lots of Uprising play time. On top of that, there are four varying levels of difficulty, so I can’t wait to dive in.
