Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link Will Be The Best Game You Won’t Get To Play

Thursday morning, a gameplay trailer for a game titled Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link hit the web and had a lot of gamers impressed with what they had witnessed. You probably aren’t familiar with the Granblue Fantasy name but it is quite a popular one in Japan. Granblue Fantasy is a Japanese mobile game with quite a following, where as of 2016, the title has at least 10 million downloads and 18 million downloads at most.

Project Re:Link was initially announced in 2016 and was first demonstrated a year later. The game is being co-developed by Platinum Games and Cygames (the studio that created the original Granblue Fantasy) where Cydesignation’s character designs and environments will be adapted to the final game by Platinum.

The latest gameplay demonstration has Platinum Games written all over it. The walking animations and sound are reminiscent of Nier Automata. And then there is the combat, which can be described as ‘Nier meets Final Fantasy 15’, where you can execute hyper stylized combos within a party of at least three other members. As someone that loved Nier’s combat, I am very excited to see more of this game’s combat.

Unfortunately, for us in the West, we may not even get to play the game for ourselves, at least not in English. According to Platinum Games’ website, the game is not scheduled for release outside of Japan. Here’s hoping that the critical and commercial success of Nier Automata can push Platinum to bring the game to us here in the Western hemisphere.
